Eida’s imperfect Shinjutsu is the reason for everyone’s memory to be rewritten. Momoshiki had already stated that a human could not contain the full power of Shinjutsu and use it to its greatest potential. This might be why Eida’s powers rewrote everyone’s memory to swap Kawaki and Boruto’s place, almost like an advanced and complicated application of Genjutsu. However, there might be some hope for Boruto’s future.

Kawaki had always felt jealous and envied Boruto’s life. Kawaki had faced a lot of hardships in life and never knew what parental love of friends felt like due to the way he was brought up. On the other hand, Boruto had everything a person could ever ask for. Boruto had loving parents, a strong parental figure, friends who stood by him, good looks, and immense power and talent since he was born.

Boruto: Chapter 80 Recap

From the chapter 80 leaks, the plot so far seems that Boruto is on the run after being accused of killing Naruto. Shikamaru asks Eida if she is sure that Boruto is the person who killed Naruto, and Eida readily agrees. Shikamaru makes an announcement to the people of Konoha that Boruto has killed their Hokage, Naruto, and is currently on the run. Eida is deeply confused by Kawaki’s actions and asks him if making such a huge scene is necessary.

Kawaki shrugs her off and tells Eida his plans to keep Naruto sealed off until he kills Boruto. Sarada is completely devastated after hearing this news, and Mitsuki leaves to go after Boruto, enraged by the entire situation. Sasuke seeks Sarada out, and Sarada tells him that Mitsuki has gone off to kill Boruto. Sasuke seems to be under the effects of Eida’s powers and tells her that Mitsuki’s reaction is only natural.

To Sarada’s relief, Sumire reaches out to Sarada, and it seems that both of them are unaffected by Eida’s powers. Sarada tries to explain to Sasuke that Boruto is not the villain, but after her efforts fail, she unlocks her Mangekyo Sharingan and tells Sasuke to save Boruto. Sasuke swoops in and saves Boruto, telling him about the time Saskuke met Kawaki and how he made Kawaki his apprentice, and how they defeated Momoshiki together.

Sasuke tells Boruto that he doesn’t believe his own memories and that he trusts his daughter’s judgment. If Sarada had asked him to save Boruto, then he would do so, and Sasuke’s trust was solidified further when he saw Boruto holding his headband. Eida witnesses everything, and Momoshiki is extremely enraged that Boruto has support from not just Sarada but also Sasuke, who has decided to put his life on the line for Boruto.

Momoshiki tells Boruto that whatever has happened cannot be overturned and asks Boruto to submit his body to Momoshiki. Boruto smiles and says that he has the blood of his grandfather, father, and mother and that he carries the will of fire. Boruto begins preparing himself, making himself stronger to face Kawaki and defeat him. Boruto says to himself that he will finally put an end to this “brother fight” for once and all.
