A Chinese silver mug by Woshing, circa 1850,Of plain rounded form with 'bamboo' handle, chased with chrysanthemums and rocks and inscribed 'R.D. from H.W.B.', 7.5cm high, 4.3oz, together with a silver bowl, possibly Japanese, of rounded form and with a controlled hammered finish around an oval cartouche inscribed 'M', 7.5cm high, 9.5cm dia., 4.2oz. (2)The vendor's grandfather worked for the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (now known as HSBC) from 1898 to 1934. During this time he was posted to Singapore, Bombay, Yokohama, Canton, Ipoh, Manila, Shanghai and Hankow (now Wuhan). He lived in Yokahama from 1907 to 1914, marrying the vendor's grandmother on 17th June 1911 (the vendor has a newspaper cutting covering the wedding). In 1914 they moved to Canton. It was during this time in the Far East that he bought this lot and assembled a collection of Oriental art.Mug: Minor/negligible signs of age.Bowl: Slightly compressed to one side. Two small dents to base.
